Hey there, fabulous friends and fellow supporters!
As many of you may know, I’m walking 100 miles throughout April to support The American Cancer Society, and I couldn’t be more excited (and a little bit nervous… but mostly excited!). This cause is incredibly close to my heart, and I’m inviting each and every one of you to join me on this journey — whether by donating, spreading the word, or even joining me in your own way to raise awareness!
Why I'm Walking
Cancer. It’s a word none of us want to hear, but it’s a reality that so many face every single day. I'm walking in memory of my Mom (Lung, 2011), Dad (Colon, 2018), and my brother (Liver, 2023). From the moment I began this journey, I realized that walking 100 miles isn’t just about the steps I’ll take — it’s about every person, every family, and every community affected by this disease. And that’s why I’m so passionate about supporting The American Cancer Society (ACS).
The ACS has been a leader in the fight against cancer for over 100 years. Their mission is simple: to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. Through groundbreaking research, support for patients and caregivers, and crucial prevention programs, ACS is making a huge difference in people’s lives. But they need our help — and that’s where YOU come in.
Did You Know?
The American Cancer Society is more than just a charity. Here are some important facts and statistics about ACS that highlight why your support matters:
-
Over 1.9 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year alone.
-
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, with 1 in 3 people expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
-
ACS invests more than $150 million annually in cancer research, funding thousands of scientists and researchers who are on the front lines of discovering new ways to treat, prevent, and even cure cancer.
-
The American Cancer Society’s research efforts have contributed to the development of nearly 50% of all cancer treatments available today.
-
Programs like the 24/7 helpline, support groups, and the Road to Recovery program provide critical resources and transportation to cancer patients who need treatment but have difficulty getting to appointments.
These facts are just the beginning. Cancer affects us all, and the work that ACS does is nothing short of life-changing. They are not just providing a service; they are changing the course of lives for millions of people across the country.
How You Can Help
Joining my fundraiser on Facebook is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to show your support. Together, we can raise the necessary funds to continue the fight. But it doesn’t stop there — your involvement can spark real change. Here’s how you can get involved:
-
Join My Fundraiser: Head over to my Facebook group [insert link] and donate to the cause. Even the smallest contribution can help make a big difference. It takes $50 to provide a night of lodging for a patient going through cancer treatment away from home. It takes $100 to provide a mammogram to someone who needs one. Your support can change someone’s world.
-
Spread the Word: Share this blog post (or my Facebook fundraiser) with your friends, family, and colleagues. The more people who know about this cause, the bigger our impact. Cancer research needs all the love (and dollars) it can get!
-
Walk with Me: Want to join the fun and get some steps in too? Whether it’s one mile or a few, I’d love for you to walk with me, even if it is only virtually. Every step counts, and it’s a chance for you to show your support for those who can’t walk for themselves right now.
-
Join the Virtual Event: If you can’t make it to the walk, don’t worry — you can still be a part of this journey by joining our virtual event. There will be updates, and yes, maybe a few sassy posts along the way to keep things lighthearted and fun.
The Power of Our Community
Let’s make this about more than just walking 100 miles. Let’s make it about community, support, and love. As I walk, I’ll be thinking of those who have fought, those who are still fighting, and those we’ve lost along the way. This is for you. This is for us.
Cancer doesn’t care who you are, where you live, or what your story is. But we can do something about it. We can fight. We can walk. We can raise money. And we can bring hope to those who need it the most.
What’s Next?
Follow me on Facebook (either my personal page or fundraiser event, links below) for regular updates as I track my miles, share stories, and highlight some of the incredible people who are benefiting from ACS’s programs. I’ll also be sharing some behind-the-scenes, fun, and sassy moments along the way — because hey, if we’re going to fight cancer, we might as well have fun doing it, right?
Thank you so much for your support, whether it’s by donating, sharing, or simply cheering me on. Let’s walk this journey together, and let’s raise as much awareness and funds as we can. Because when we walk, we’re not just taking steps — we’re making a difference.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey. Stay tuned for updates, challenges, and plenty of sassy moments along the way. I can’t do this without you — and I wouldn’t want to.
Let’s do this, friends! π
